Kiwi Spirit Being Stripped
Kiwi Spirit has had her insides cleaned out, resulting in more space for me to handle sails, gear below reach and just as importantly, to reduce her weight by several hundred pounds. Beds, toilets, pots and pans, clothing, drawers and doors are all going into storage. The mast and rigging has been removed to be inspected for wear and tear. Same for the keel and the sails. She has some 8,000 miles on her now and it is time to make sure we see where any problems may exist. I
Marblehead to Halifax a relative success - 14th place out of 75 boats!
The 363 mile Marblehead to Halifax Classic is designed for heavily crewed boats. Some have as many as 16 crew members on board, and those that came in before us had on average some eight to twelve crew members. So we did very well with just two of us to come in 14th place. The next boat with only two crew members is yet to finish, eight hours after we finished. John James was my crew member. Meanwhile back at the boatyard
Before sailing Kiwi Spirit back to Maine, I paid a quick visit to Salt Lake City to attend the conference of the American Physical Therapy Association and be present for a board meeting of the Foundation for Physical Therapy. During the banquet/gala that followed, we were able to raise additional funds for the Foundation from those wishing to place their names on the hull of Kiwi Spirit.
